Centre Court Urban Farm, Wimbledon 2022

To be invited by Romulus to set up and open their first mushroom urban farm was an exciting challenge for us.  Located on the roof of the London based shopping center, the 40sqm set up now recycles over 1500 Kilos of used coffee grounds each year, collected from local coffee shops.  In turn it produces an impressive yield of fresh oyster mushrooms as part of their new roof top farm.

It’s great to see a company take the concept of the circular economy beyond theory and make it a reality, and we are proud to have played such an important part in this groundbreaking initiative.  We installed and established the farm as well as training their new farmer, so she is now proficient in mushroom farming and able to develop the farm further to meet the needs of an increasing, and curious customer base.

The mushroom farm at Centre Court is part of a much bigger sustainable initiative, with a series of beehives now present and with the imminent installation of greenhouses the farm will look to produce fresh produce, grown on the spent substrate from the mushroom farm.  We have also just inoculated the Centre’s decommissioned pine Christmas trees, that were on display over the festive season as part of their sustainable Christmas campaign. Letting nothing go to waste, we expect to see them harvesting their own Enoki mushrooms within the year.
