  • The yellow liquid is a very normal part of mushroom growing, it is a by-product of the mycelium growth and called Metabolites.

  • There are black lines marked on the grow bag for you to follow. Use clean scissors or a clean sharp knife to follow the lines. The jute bag may also require an X opening to be cut to allow air and moisture, and light to the place where your plastic bag has been cut.

  • You can soak your block for up to 24 hours. Any longer and you risk contamination. Carry on with the set up instructions and your Grow at Home Kit should be fine and still fruit mushrooms.

  • Some Grow at Home Kits take a little longer than others. Check all around your kit to make sure your mushrooms haven’t starting growing out of view - you will need to remove the just bag for this.. If they have started growing, open your grow bag to allow them room to flourish.

If no signs of growth, and your kit still smells fresh hold on for a couple more days.

Meanwhile, ensure your kit is wet enough, kept at a good stable room temperature and that air can get to the substrate block, where you made your cuts in the plastic bag. The edges may need a little teasing away, this is to allow more light and air. Feel free to send us update pictures for specific advice on your kit.

  • Plenty of water and your mushrooms will thank you. Avoid standing water on top of your kit. Tip away any excess. Once little mushroom pins appear, you will need to ensure they get misted a couple of times a day.

  • You will need to allow your block to rest and to grow more mycelium.

Dry out your jute bag and store your grow kit somewhere cool, dark, clean and dry for 10 -14 days.

Then revive your block by soaking for 8-12 hours in cool, clean water, and starting the process as before.

You can try this a couple of times to grow more flushes of mushrooms. The next growths may take a little longer than the first but have patience, water your substrate often and they will come.

  • Your substrate block is full of goodness and nutrients, that are still useful to your soil health once you have grown your mushrooms. You can crumble your block straight onto your garden bed or into your compost bin.

  • Yes, the plastic bag is recyclable. You can take it to any large supermarket and dispose of it at their recycle point, as you would with your sliced bread bags or plastic carrier bags.
