School Packages: Growing Mushrooms

At Caley Brothers HQ, we are fascinated with the growing ability of Oyster Mushrooms and have developed our school package range to show you how you can get your students growing mushrooms on a variety of substrates.  Oyster mushrooms are the world’s great recyclers, and our school packages are a wonderful practical project for anyone wanting to learn more about the mushroom growing process. 

Description

We offer package options that deliver a practical experience allowing student to source and/or prepare their own substrate base. They’ll introduce fresh Oyster mushroom spawn and in turn witness the growth of the living mycelium.  Once their kit is completely colonized then begins the process of growing their very own Oyster mushrooms.  If successful after a couple of weeks, they’ll witness the appearance of their first mushroom pins, and just a week later will be able to harvest their first crop of Oyster mushrooms.  

Our school packages include everything you need to get your students growing on a variety of substrate options

Package options:

Group kits: group work between 4 students, to research, plan and prepare their chosen substrate. Add their allocated mycelium, inoculate, and then grow their own Oyster mushrooms.  

Individual kits: individual students research, plan and prepare their chosen substrate.  Add their allocated mycelium, inoculate, and then grow their own Oyster mushrooms.  

With or without substrate. Caley Brothers can advise and if required supply either straw or coffee blocks at an additional cost.  Costs will include delivery and instructions on how to repair substrate accordingly.  

As part of your school package, we send out the freshest grain spawn – this will need to be kept refrigerated until your students are ready to inoculate their kits - to give you the best chances of growing this will need to be used within 4 weeks.

* Second class tracked with Royal Mail. Orders made placed before 1pm will be posted same day Mon-Friday, after 1pm orders will be posted the following working day unless listed as a pre order.  We will endeavor to inform you of any delays out of our control.

Additional information:

Use by date: The spawn within your kit must be used within 4 weeks from receipt.  Storage: Please keep your spawn refrigerated untill ready to use. During the inoculation period of 21 days kits will need to be stored in the dark at around 18oC.  While growing keep in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight and remember to water regularly – PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED. 

Inside your kit: fresh spawn on grain, plastic grow bags, full set of growing instruction and growing guidance, stickers, postage box – quantites will equate to the number of kits required or ordered. Substrate is not included, unless specified.

Recycling your kit: All paper and card can be recycled with your standard card recycling.  The plastic bag can be cleaned and recycled with your soft plastic recycling.  Your used substrate should be composted or disposed of along with your normal food waste – please assess the practicality of this on a kit-by-kit bases.
